FOX Cancels Dads, Surviving Jack and Enlisted

FOX have made their final calls on the last of their comedies whose fate were undecided and the news was bad for Dads, Surviving Jack and Enlisted, all of which have been cancelled. None of the cancellations were shocking, though there was some hope that Enlisted, which had a lot of critical support, might be given another chance. Surviving Jack had fans as well (the Seth MacFarlane-produced Dads was rather dramatically scorned by critics last fall), but all three shows were facing an uphill battle, with a lot of new series already set for the next season by the network. FOX's entire live-action comedy lineup is struggling in the ratings, but the network gave early renewals to New Girl, The Mindy Project and Brooklyn Nine-Nine a couple of months ago.

Enlisted creator Kevin Biegel wrote, via a series of tweets, "Well guys, we fought as hard as we could - all of us - but Enlisted isn't going forward at Fox. Thank you from all of us for your amazing display of support, love and for giving us a chance. This has been the most satisfying thing I've ever worked on, and a large part of that - hell, I'll even say a crapton of it - was because of you. This show will continue to be shared for a long time. Good feeling. Better feeling? Show keeps going. But hey, I'll take lesser feeling over greater feeling this feeling stuff is getting confusing. Anyhow... Thanks to you all. And just so you know, we had a shot right up to the end no matter what any place says. People fought for us- That's cool. Thanks Mike Royce especially for being a true partner and making the show what it was. Dad yelling at me because im not helpin him put new ceiling on porch. I said 'I gotta tell people we're cancelled.' He said 'Oh boo hoo.'"

Besides the returning New Girl, Mindy Project and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, FOX have three new comedies set for next season: Mulaney (starring John Mulaney), Last Man On Earth (starring Will Forte) and Weird Loners (starring Becki Newton).

Update: FOX have also cancelled the drama Rake, starring Greg Kinnear. This call was a complete non-surprise - Rake had been a big ratings bust, and after a move to Fridays, was then burnt off on Saturday nights to finish its run.
